With 116 entries and the winners soon to be honored, the “Why I Love My Library” was a great success.
The entries are delightful, so, come on by the library and take a minute to enjoy all the creativity and talent of our local youth. The entries are now on display in the Library Community Room.
The Friends of the Nipomo Library Installation of the 2012 Board of Directors will take place on Thursday, January 19, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. with Paul Texeira, SLO Board of Supervisors, installing the new officers.
The meeting will include the introduction of the winners of the “Why I Love My Library” contest, and the awarding of their grand prizes. Please come to honor the winners of the contest and meet the new FONL Board Members for 2012.
Almost everyone is aware of the budget woes of California and libraries have been dealt another serious financial blow.
California Governor Jerry Brown announced on December 13, 2011, that the “Tier 1” trigger and a portion of the “Tier 2” trigger will be pulled, resulting in a $16 million reduction in state library funding, which essentially eliminates all remaining state funding for the California Library Services Act, Adult Literacy, and the Public Library Foundation.
What does that mean to our local library?
We do not have specific numbers yet, as we must wait for the governor's budget presentation in January 2012 for the final outlook,. We do know that the support of local communities and Friends Of The Library groups will be more important than ever to help our libraries continue to survive and thrive.
The Friends of Nipomo Library will begin its annual membership drive in February, 2012. Local efforts to provide support for our wonderful Nipomo Library will be more important than ever. Please keep your membership current. If you are not a member, please consider joining the Friends of the Nipomo Library.
The Friends members provide daily library support by shelving returned books, book drop services, newspaper preparation, as well as providing an additional $12,000.00 for services to our local library each year that the county does not include in their budget.
Popular events sponsored by the Friends of the Library are the Great Big Book Sales which are held three times each year. The next sale will be held Saturday, March 24, 2012.. The Friends are now asking for book donations of fiction and nonfiction, hard backs and paperbacks that are in good, saleable, condition, plus, DVDs, music CDs, and Books on CD.
Please bring all small donations to the front desk in the Library.
If you have a larger donation, or, wish to have a receipt for your donation, please contact Kathy at (805) 929-6649.
The installment of the January Silent Auction will be on display beginning on Saturday, December 31st for the month of January, so, check out the items and see what you want to bid on.
You may follow the auction action and how the bidding is going on FONL Silent Auction but must bid, in person, at the library.
To donate items for the silent auction, please contact Susan at (805) 929-5123.
Happy New Year!
